A construction vehicle that struck a fire hydrant caused a section of road to collapse Monday morning, and the incident shut down surrounding streets in unincorporated Broward County, the sheriff’s office said.

The incident happened shortly before 10 a.m. near the 100 block of Northwest 27th Terrace, the sheriff’s office said. Water from the hydrant cause a six-foot wide sinkhole in the street, said BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis.

BSO Fire Rescue and Fort Lauderdale Utilities Department responded and turned off the water, St. Louis said.

As of 11 a.m., the street was still closed.
