Five people hospitalized in downtown Fort Lauderdale shooting, police say

Five people were hospitalized in a shooting in downtown Fort Lauderdale early Sunday morning, police said.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. at the 300 block of Southwest Second Street, police said.

When officers arrived, they found the victims, all adults, wounded by gunfire, said Sgt. David Soika, a Fort Lauderdale police spokesman.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue paramedics took the victims to the hospital. Soika said their conditions were not immediately available.

Police said they do not have any information on suspects, and the shooting is under investigation. Soika said that detectives believe the shooting “is an isolated incident and there is currently no threat to the public.”
