A pedestrian was hit and killed by a Brightline train in Broward, deputies say
A man was killed Monday morning after he was struck by a Brightline train in Broward County, officials say.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m., deputies responded to the crash involving the train and a pedestrian in the 1200 block of Northeast 38th Street in Oakland Park, according to deputies. The man was dead when paramedics got there.
The man’s death is the fourth Brightline fatality in November. Someone was killed in Boynton Beach on Nov. 2, Pompano Beach on Nov. 3, and Hollywood on Nov. 6.
So far this year, 30 people have died after being struck by Brightline trains. In Broward, where seven of the deaths occurred this year, the trains travel at a speed of 79 mph and do not slow down when going through neighborhoods.

Since Brightline began running trains in Florida in 2017, 193 people have been struck and killed, most of them pedestrians who were not at official crossings, according to a Miami Herald/WLRN investigation. Fewer than half were ruled suicides.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances around the crash.
