Rally for Confederate battle flag sparks protests in Plantation, Sunrise
Several hundred people, most in pickup trucks and on motorcycles, took part in a 15-mile road rally in support of the Confederate battle flag Sunday, but not before they were jeered by protesters who denounced the banner as a symbol hate.
With Plantation police officers keeping about 40 demonstrators from blocking the exit from Plantation Heritage Park on Peters Road, a convoy of vehicles — many festooned with large U.S. and Confederate flags — roared off about 12:30 p.m. on a route that took them through Pembroke Pines before ending at Markham Park in Sunrise.
