A woman who evacuated from a burning Hollywood high-rise condominium Tuesday night died two days later in the hospital, officials said.

The 13-story building at New York Street and North Surf Road caught fire around 5:30 p.m. Flames and smoke were seen coming from the top floors.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames that were coming from one unit. No one from that apartment was injured, but one Hollywood firefighter and one police officer were taken to the hospital and have since been released, Hollywood Fire Rescue department said.

Paramedics took a woman in the building to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where she died Thursday morning. How she was injured was not immediately clear, but Hollywood Fire Rescue described her as “an elderly woman” in the statement about her death.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Fire Rescue spokeswoman Chai Kauffman said.
