Small plane makes emergency landing on a bike path in North Lauderdale, BSO says
A small plane made an emergency landing on a bike path in North Lauderdale on Monday afternoon, Broward deputies say.
The Cessna Skyhawk plane came down around 4:40 p.m. at the 8100 block of Southgate Boulevard, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Miami Herald news partner CBS 4 Miami’s helicopter filmed the aircraft stopped on a bike path next to a body of water. The tv station reported two people were on board and walked away without injuries.
Per the Flight Aware website, which tracks aircraft routes, the plane took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport around 4:05 p.m. and landed in North Lauderdale as it was returning about 35 minutes later.
The plane is owned by the FXE Flight Center Corporation, a flight school located at the airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. A man who answered the phone at the school referred the Miami Herald to a phone number in Norway for comment.
The plane’s tail has a logo for OSM Aviation Academy, a flight school based in Norway, with a location listed with the same Fort Lauderdale address and phone number as FXE Flight Center Corporation.
The Herald has reached out to the company for comment.
