Girl drowns in pond at Royal Palm Park, Broward Sheriff’s Office says

A girl died in the hospital after being found unresponsive in a pond Friday morning at Royal Palm Park in Oakland Park, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found the child in the water at the park, 4100 NW 16th Ave., just before 9 a.m. and pulled her out, the sheriff’s office said.

The park contains a canal and a pond. Oakland Park Fire Rescue paramedics immediately began life-saving measures and took her to the hospital, where she died, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the circumstances that led to the drowning and has not released the girl’s name or age.
