A Dania Beach marina security guard died Sunday after deputies say he drove his golf cart into a canal.

Luckinson Pierre, 40, was driving through the parking lot of Bradford Marina East, at 2965 State Road 84, when he traveled through some hedges along the dock, striking the starboard side of a yacht and crashing into the water, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

A co-worker, who was scheduled to relieve Pierre, reported him missing to the business when he couldn’t find him. Staff found his golf cart just before 6 p.m. and called the sheriff’s office to report a possible drowning, BSO spokesman Carey Codd said.

Sheriff’s office dive team deputies found Pierre’s body, Codd added. Traffic homicide detectives will continue investigating what led to the crash.

The marina declined to comment on the incident when reached Tuesday.
