Reports of “suspicious individuals” near two Pembroke Pines schools were unfounded, and precautionary “code secures” at both campuses were lifted after a search of the area, according to police.

Around 8:40 a.m., officers responded to the area of 12800 Taft St. after receiving a report of two people seen walking near the schools. As a precaution, Flanagan High School was placed on a “code secure” while police searched the area.

A code secure alert means that students and faculty remain inside and lock doors but can “do business as usual,” according to the Broward County School District website.

By 8:50 a.m., Walter C. Young Middle School was also placed on code secure while the search continued, according to Pembroke Pines police.

After a sweep, officers said no suspicious persons or activity were found and the initial call appeared to be unfounded. All campuses were cleared and the alerts were lifted.
