A fatal crash between a motorcycle and an SUV shut down several miles of the Sawgrass Expressway near Oakland Park Monday morning into the afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. and traffic was shut down from the Sunrise to Oakland Park Boulevard exits as of 2 p.m., the FHP said.

According to troopers, a 37-year-old man from Hialeah was driving his 2025 Suzuki motorcycle at a high rate of speed southbound on the highway when he crashed into the back of a 2025 Suburu SUV driven by a 69-year-old woman from Davie.

The motorcycle driver, who was not named by the FHP, died on the scene, said Lt. India Miranda, a Highway Patrol spokeswoman.

The driver of the Suburu was not injured, Miranda said.
