Man shot while holding baby in Broward. The shooter was caught, police say
A man was shot while holding a baby in a car seat at a Broward County apartment complex Thursday, police say. The alleged shooter was caught and told police he knew the victim.
Around 4 p.m., the unidentified man walked into an elevator on the fifth floor of an apartment building in the 7041 block of Environ Boulevard, police said. He was carrying his child in a car seat when Tasaini Da Shoniel Graham entered the elevator on the third floor.
When they reached the garage level, Graham moved ahead of the man, reached into a shoulder bag and pulled out a gun, police said.
He shot the man while he was still holding the car seat with the baby. After being hit, the victim ran to a nearby car and collapsed. Graham walked over to the wounded man, who pulled out his own gun and shot at Graham.
Graham ran away while the man called the child’s mother, who was inside the building. She ran downstairs to get the baby but saw Graham pointing a gun her way, so she ducked behind a car, police said.
Eventually, Graham ran away again, but was caught by Lauderhill police officers later that day.
Authorities say the men know each other, but did not say what prompted the shooting. The child was not injured. The man was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center and is in stable condition.
Graham was charged with attempted felony murder, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony and child abuse without great bodily harm. As of Saturday night, he remained in the Broward County Jail.
