Ex-Broward teacher cuffed for sexually abusing child over a decade ago, BSO says
A former Broward County Public Schools teacher is facing several charges for sexually abusing a child, authorities said. He was put in handcuffs on Monday, more than 10 years after his alleged crimes.
Basil Elliott Farrington, 47, was charged with six counts of sexual battery by a person of custodial authority, an arrest warrant read. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Farrington was a teacher at Boyd H. Anderson High from September 2000 to June 2015, an educator at the Whiddon-Rogers Education Center until 2020 and then a grants facilitator, Miami Herald News Partner CBS 4 reported.
According to the warrant, Farrington sexually battered one of his students at least four times in Broward from 2011 and 2013. At the time, he was a teacher at Boyd Anderson High.
It’s unclear how authorities became aware of the alleged crime or why the warrant was recently issued on Friday.
Since then, he was released from the Broward Jail after paying a $150,000 bond, records show. A judge also ordered that he wear a tracking device, have no contact with any minor and can’t return to Broward County Public Schools properties.
