A man was killed Saturday evening when he crashed his dirt bike into a car that was turning into a Deerfield Beach shopping plaza, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Anthony Knight, 22, was riding his 2023 Yamaha YZ450F southbound in the right through lane of North Powerline Road approaching Hillsborough Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. when he ran into the passenger side of a 2018 Hyundai Tucson, that was turning left into the shopping center, according to the sheriff’s office.

Knight, who lived in Pompano Beach, was ejected from the Yamaha and landed on the sidewalk, said Carey Codd, a BSO spokesman.

Paramedics took Knight to Broward Health North, where he died, Codd said.

The driver of the Hyundai stayed on the scene waiting for deputies and firefighters to arrive, Codd added. BSO did not release the name of the driver.

BSO traffic homicide detectives say Knight’s excessive speed “is considered a contributing factor to the crash,” Codd said, adding that their investigation continues.
