A young child was hospitalized with serious injuries after being attacked by at least one dog at a Margate home Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The attack happened around 11 a.m. at a home in the 5500 block of South Lakewood Circle.

The child was bitten multiple times, said Lisa Huriash, spokeswoman for the city of Margate and Margate Fire Rescue. Margate police confirmed the child is 7 years old.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue paramedics airlifted the child to Broward Health Medical Center, said that department’s spokesman Battalion Chief Michael Kane.

Huriash said the child’s injuries “are severe, but they do not appear to be life-threatening. The child is in stable condition.”

Several dogs live at the home, said Huriash, but two were involved in the attack. Both are pit bulls and have been turned over to Broward County Animal Control, the county’s animal control agency, Huriash said.
