Four people rescued after boat slams into seawall in Fort Lauderdale: officials
Four people were rescued from the water Friday evening after a boat crashed along the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale, according to officials.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded around 7:30 p.m. to the scene near the Commercial Boulevard bridge. Authorities say the boat’s operator lost control and slammed into a seawall, throwing all four occupants overboard.
All four adults were transported to the hospital with varying injuries. One was taken to a trauma center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while two others sustained minor injuries. One person suffered injuries related to a near-drowning, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
The U.S. Coast Guard also responded to the scene but said that local and state agencies rescued the people before their rescue crews arrived.
