Months after ‘shocking’ unprovoked elderly attack, deputies arrest suspect
A 71-year-old man was sitting quietly on a Broward County Transit bus when he was approached by a random man and beaten with no explanation in March. On Friday, four months later, deputies say they’ve caught the man behind the unprovoked attack.
Maurice Bradwell, a 33-year-old Pompano Beach man, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and aggravated robbery. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said the community had a hand in his capture.
On Monday, the agency released images of the attack and promptly received several Broward Crime Stoppers tips that identified Bradwell as the bus attacker.
On March 5, the 71-year-old man, who was not identified, was riding the bus alone when Bradwell walked up to him and stood in a “pre-attack” stance before hurling curses at the man, the sheriff’s office said. The bus driver heard the commotion, pulled over and told everyone to get off.
When the older man asked the driver why he stopped, Bradwell attacked him without warning and stole his phone. The man was knocked unconscious and later taken to Broward Health North suffering multiple injuries.
As of Saturday, Bradwell still remained in the Broward Main Jail.
