BSO detectives seek help finding suspect filmed beating, robbing elderly man on a bus

Broward Sheriff's Office

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are looking for a man they say beat and robbed an elderly man on a transit bus in March.

The sheriff’s office released still shots from a bus security camera they say captured the moment of the March 5 attack.

Detectives say the man walked up to the elderly man on the bus as it was traveling near the 600 block of Southwest 12th Avenue around 12:40 p.m. and began at him for unknown reasons.

The driver noticed the man acting aggressively and stopped the bus, said BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis. The victim walked up to the driver and asked him why he stopped, and that’s when the other man attacked him without warning, knocking him unconscious, and stole his cell phone, St. Louis said.

He then exited the bus, according to the sheriff’s office.

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives say the photograph shows a man beating an elderly man aboard a transit bus on March 5, 2025, before stealing his cell phone.

Deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue paramedics treated the man for multiple injuries and took him to Broward Health North for further care, St. Louis said.

Witnesses told deputies the man who attacked the other man is around 30 years old, five feet, six inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the wherebouts or identity of the man to call Detetective Francine Yap at 954-786-4283 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch App.

Those wanting to remain anonymous can call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), submit a tip online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or dial **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States.
