A threat called in to Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale Wednesday was likely a SWATing hoax, police said.

An officer assigned to the school, located at 1800 Southwest Fifth Place, received the threat around 11:45 a.m. and a lockdown was put into place out of precaution, police said.

Officers searched the entire school, found no threat and announced the campus was cleared around 2:30 p.m.

Fort Lauderdale police spokesman Sgt. David Soika said officers’ preliminary investigation points to the incident as a hoax called in to get law enforcement to swarm the area.

The school returned to its normal operations and end-of-the-day pickup schedule, but police kept an increased presence at the campus, Soika said.
