A man was hospitalized Thursday evening after a boat caught fire in the driveway of a Lauderdale Lakes house.

Just before 7:30 p.m., Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue firefighters responded to a call about a boat on fire near a house at 3535 NW 35th St. When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke and found a 20-foot boat on a trailer fully engulfed in flames in the driveway, near the home.

Firefighters quickly worked to put out the blaze. A man suffered serious burns and was treated at the scene before being flown to Broward Health for further care, according to BSOFR.

The fire was contained to the boat, and only minor damage was reported to the home. No other injuries were reported.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire’s cause.
