A Broward County woman who had her foot run over by a Lyft driver two years ago has been awarded a $1.25 million verdict after suffering severe nerve damage.

A Broward jury in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit awarded Kristian-Zani Eatman the seven-figure verdict Thursday, her attorneys at the Morgan & Morgan law firm announced. Eatman, 25, was initially offered a $400,000 pre-trial settlement but declined it.

“Throughout the trial, the defense tried to minimize our client’s injuries, but the jury recognized the full impact of what she has lost and how this will continue to impact her life,” said Morgan & Morgan founder John Morgan and attorney Jennifer Rosinski in a statement. “This was not just about a foot injury but how the injury changed the course of her life.”

On January 4, 2023, Eatman and her friend ordered a Lyft to pick them up in Hallandale Beach, the lawsuit read. As she was getting into the car, the driver began to drive and ran over her left foot.

Eatman underwent surgery as she suffered severe nerve and joint damage. Her attorneys also said she is currently participating in physical therapy to relieve some of the pain she is still experiencing.

“This case highlights how any injury can have a debilitating ripple effect on someone’s life,” her attorneys said. “Our client’s injuries disrupted her young life by derailing her career as a flight attendant and limiting her mobility and active lifestyle.”
