Man accused of sexually assaulting 81-year-old in Broward, sheriff’s office says
Borward Sheriff’s Office detectives on Sunday arrested a man who’s accused of sexually assaulting an 81-year-old woman on the streets of Lauderdale Lakes days earlier.
The attack happened around 4 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Northwest 50th Avenue and 34th Street, the sheriff’s office said.
The woman told deputies a man, who detectives say is 50-year-old John Isom, threw her to the ground and began the assault. She yelled for help, and two people arrived, prompting Isom to run away, according to Gerdy St. Louis, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.
St. Louis said detectives obtained images of Isom and distributed them to the public, hoping to find him. Early Sunday morning, Special Victims Unit detectives tracked down Isom, who is homeless, near the 4600 block of West Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation and arrested him.
As of Monday afternoon, Isom was being held in Broward County jail with bond to be determined by a judge on one count each of sexual battery on a person 18 of age or older, false imprisonment and battery on a person 65 years of age or older.
