Three teens face felony charges after Pembroke Pines police say they made text message threats to kill two other boys over a romantic relationship earlier this week.

The text messages were sent to them Sunday and included a photograph of a gun, said Pembroke Pines police spokeswoman Amanda Conwell.

The two boys who were the target of the threats attend Franklin Academy Charter School in Pembroke Pines, Conwell said. The threats did not mention the school, but police did notify its administration, she said.

Following the threats, the boys called 911, Conwell said. Police identified the three teens — all 14 — accused of making the threats. Due to their age, they were not named. They live in West Palm Beach, Coconut Creek and Lake Worth, Conwell said.

They turned themselves in to police and were taken to Broward County’s Juvenile Assessment Center and each face a charge of written threats to kill, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

“Parents, please speak to your children about the seriousness of making threats toward others,” Conwell said in a statement. “Even if a joke, written threats can result in a felony charge and a criminal record.”
