Fort Lauderdale woman arrested after a fatal hit-and-run in Pompano Beach, BSO says
A woman was arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a New York woman and critically injured her husband Friday night in Pompano Beach , according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Patricia and Salvatore Marciante, from Staten Island, were crossing East Atlantic Boulevard in the designated crosswalk around 9 p.m. when they were struck by a 2019 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was turning left on Pompano Beach Boulevard, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver of the truck, 37-year-old Ashley Nicole Bowman, kept going, said Clauddine Caro, a BSO spokeswoman.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue paramedics took the couple to the hospital, where Patricia Marciante, 74, died. Caro noted Salvatore Marciante, 76, was in critical condition as of Monday afternoon.
Deputies eventually located the Tacoma and arrested Bowman, Caro said.
The Fort Lauderdale woman was booked into Broward County jail Saturday on charges of driving under the influence and causing manslaughter, failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury.
On Monday, Bowman was being held without bond on the manslaughter charge and bond-to-be-determined on the other counts, per jail records.
