Watch: Semi-truck driver rescued after 90-minute extrication on Alligator Alley

A semi-truck driver was saved Saturday morning after his rig tipped over on Alligator Alley, authorities said. Firefighters spent an hour-and-a-half meticulously extracting him from his cab.

Around 7:30 a.m., Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue was called to a semi-tractor trailer rolling over near Mile Marker 40 on Alligator Alley, fire rescue said. Firefighters found a 40-year-old man trapped inside the cab with “significant” leg injuries.

“The patient was heavily entangled within the wreckage...,” said BSFR Battalion Chief Michael Kane.

Firefighters took about 90 minutes of “extensive extraction” to get him out of the rig — during which he was given continuous medical treatment, fire rescue said. A video released of the rescue showed nearly a dozen firefighters working together.

The man, who was not identified, was airlifted to Broward Health Fort Lauderdale. He had serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
