A teenage girl was pronounced dead at the hospital Tuesday after being shot the night before, according to Fort Lauderdale police.

Police and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue paramedics arrived at 1592 NW Eighth Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of a shooting. They found the girl, who police have not named nor provided an age for, with serious gunshot wounds, said Casey Liening, a police spokesperson.

Paramedics took her to Broward Health Medical Center, where she died Tuesday, Liening said.

Police do not have a suspect in custody, Liening said, adding the “scene is still active, and the investigation is ongoing as detectives attempt to piece together the details surrounding this incident.”

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 954-764-4357.

This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
