Boater finds 65 pounds of cocaine floating off Fort Lauderdale, Border Patrol says
A boater found a burlap sack full of bricks of cocaine floating in the ocean off Fort Lauderdale, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.
In total there were 25 bricks of cocaine weighing about 65 pounds, or almost 30 kilograms, the Border Patrol said in a statement posted on X.
The bricks found Saturday were wrapped in plastic with a scorpion logo on the package, according to a photograph released by the agency.
The Border Patrol says people who spot floating or washed-up drug loads should call 877-772-8146.
Floating contraband, including cocaine and marijuana bricks, can be a common sight in South Florida waters, especially off the Florida Keys. That’s because the region is along routes smugglers use to get illegal drugs into the United States.
