A confusing scene awaited Fort Lauderdale officers responding to a shooting late Tuesday, authorities say. One person was stabbed; another shot. A day later, detectives aren’t sure what prompted the scuffle.

Around 11:30 p.m., officers rushed to the 3600 block of West Broward Boulevard, responding to a shot spotter alert indicating a possible shooting. They pulled up to find multiple people “appearing to have been in an altercation,” the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said.

Among the group of people was a man with stab wounds and another pierced by a bullet. Both were taken to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Authorities said they have identified everyone involved in the “altercation” but have not arrested anyone yet — partly due to it being unclear if anyone acted in self-defense. Detectives are continuing to investigate.
