Aggressive driving led to a fatal three-car crash in Broward, deputies say
A man swerving in and out of lanes, driving into oncoming traffic and possibly street racing led to the death of another driver after he caused a three-car crash in Broward on Friday, deputies say.
Around 5:30 p.m., Broward sheriff’s deputies and Pompano Beach Fire-Rescue were called to the three-vehicle crash near the 1300 block of South Ocean Drive in Pompano Beach, the sheriff’s office said.
Detectives said that Julius Clark, 43, was possibly street racing in his 2024 Mercedes-Benz C450 up North Ocean Boulevard just before the crash. At the same time, a 2021 Nissan Versa was driving down that road with a 2020 Audi Q3 behind it.
Witnesses said Clark started weaving in and out of traffic when he suddenly sped into the center divider lane. A stopped cement truck was sitting in the lane, so Clark drove left into oncoming traffic and struck the Nissan head-on, according to the sheriff’s office.
Clark hit the car with such force it pushed backward into the Audi, the sheriff’s office said.
Paramedics took the Nissan driver, who was not identified, to Broward Health North, where they later died from their injuries. The Audi’s driver was also hospitalized but has since been released.
It is unclear if Clark was injured in the collision or if he will be facing criminal charges for his alleged role in the crash.
