Sunrise woman arrested after year on the lam with daughter
A Sunrise woman was arrested Monday morning in Palatka after kidnapping her then-2-year-old daughter a year ago and disappearing even though she did not have custody of the girl, according to the FBI.
Megan Elizabeth Everett, 23, was arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Monday when a tip came in because her story was featured in the CNN program The Hunt with John Walsh over the weekend.
Sunrise police said in a news release Monday that “the child was recovered safely and placed into protective custody.”
According to an FBI wanted flier, Everett allegedly kidnapped her daughter, Lilly Abigail Baumann on May 13, 2014. Everett was supposed to drop the girl off with her father but never did. On May 19, 2014, and arrest warrant was issued. The FBI then got involved because it was thought that she left the area.
After John Walsh, an anti-crime activist, whose son was kidnapped and murdered in 1981, featured the Everett case Sunday, a lead came in and she was arrested.
She will now be taken to Broward County to face several charges
