Pompano Beach, a coastal Broward city in the midst of a building boom, is getting a new addition to its changing skyline: a luxury hotel.

Real estate developers Related Group and BH Group announced Wednesday plans to launch W Pompano Beach Hotel & Residences, a swanky 24-story tower on nearly four beachfront acres managed by luxury chain W Hotels.

The project, located at 20 N. Ocean Drive will feature 74 condominium residences, three penthouse residences with private rooftops and 296 fully furnished condo-hotel suites. Besides floor-to-ceiling windows in each unit facing the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway, guests and residents can expect the full VIP treatment, with 24 hour service, including private transportation, personal chefs, grocery shopping, dog walking and even plant care.

“It’s not the W our parents went to,” said said Patrick Campbell, the Related Group vice president and W Pompano lead developer. “It’s the W our parents want to go to now.”

Sales for the units will begin Jan 6, 2025. Depending on sales, construction may begin in 2027, Campbell said. Initial pricing for the residences starts at $3.1 million and the condo-hotel suites starts at $775,000.

“Our collaboration with one of the industry’s most dynamic hospitality brands will not only enhance the area’s appeal but infuse it with distinctive lifestyle offerings, elevated service culture, and a vibrant atmosphere,” said Isaac Toledano, the BH Group founder, in a statement. “This will be a game-changer for Pompano Beach and its surrounding communities.”

The W Pompano announcement is the latest project contributing to a development surge in Pompano Beach, a city of about 113,000 people just north of Fort Lauderdale. Related Group is behind several recent developments in the area.

In March 2020, Related launched Solemar, its first Pompano project and the area’s first luxury condo tower in several decades. The tower was fully sold by that fall at an average of about $800 per square foot. The following year, the group launched Casamar, another luxury condo tower currently under construction. The 21-story building used to be the Pompano Beach Villa Condominiums, built in 1979. Next year, construction will begin on the Waldorf Astoria Residences Pompano Beach, which is selling at $1,400 per square foot.

Other developers’ pending projects include Hillsboro Shores at 2507 N. Ocean Blvd., Armani/Casa Residences Pompano Beach at 1550 N. Ocean Blvd., and Salato at 305 Briny Ave.

“It’s been awesome to see how Pompano’s evolved,” Campbell said. “I like to say we’re the incubator of the evolution, as well. We were able to elevate what was mostly an older town into something more modern and a place that people want to be now.”

While some perks are reserved for W Pompano owners, like the resident-only pool, club lounge and private fitness center, other amenities are open to the public. That includes the open-air 63,000 square foot WET Pool Deck, a beach club-inspired area with private cabanas, a full-service bar and grill, pickleball and padel courts and a jacuzzi. The public also has access to the building’s indoor Living Room gathering and event space, fitness center and yoga studio. The AWAY Spa offers wellness treatments, a cold plunge, jacuzzi, sauna, steam rooms and hair and nail services.

Pompano Beach’s beautiful beaches make the city particularly attractive to developers, Campbell said. Compared to Fort Lauderdale and Miami, Pompano Beach is “uncharted territory.” The W Pompano will elevate the city’s image and provide residents and visitors a place to gather, he said.

“It’s still keeping the cool, small town vibe that Pompano has,” Campbell said. “It’s not like we’re adding more land. We’re just enhancing the land that’s there.”
