Broward sheriff’s patrol car burglarized, deputies say. Handcuff key, firearm magazines stolen
An early morning caper on a Broward Sheriff’s Office patrol car triggered a hunt over the weekend as the alleged burglar happened to break into the vehicle belonging to the highest-ranked deputy in the county — Sheriff Gregory Tony.
Around 2:40 a.m. Sunday, the sheriff’s office said Tony’s car was broken into in Fort Lauderdale. While no guns were stolen, culprit is accused of snagging a handcuff key, personal items and firearm magazines.
Deputies quickly put out an alert to be on the lookout for Andre Demetric Perry, 42, who was believed to be the suspect. Later that day, Fort Lauderdale police officers found him and arrested him on unrelated charges.
Perry is facing charges of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, grand theft, burglary of an occupied dwelling, possessing a handcuff key, two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and violation of probation.
Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call Broward Crime Stopper at 954-493-8477.
