A 6-year-old child was fatally shot in Tamarac Monday afternoon, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at an apartment building at the 5600 block of Rock Island Road, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis said.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene, St. Louis said.

“Detectives with BSO’s Crime Scene and Homicide Units are responding to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” she said.
