Two Broward County public schools were evacuated early Monday afternoon because of what Davie police say was a “suspicious incident” on one of the campuses.

Officers evacuated both Nova High School and Nova Middle School, which are located next to each other on College Avenue in Davie, as a “precaution” shortly after 12 p.m. over the incident that took place at the former school, Davie police said in a statement.

Keyla Concepcion, a Broward County Public Schools spokeswoman, said a bomb threat prompted the evacuation.

“All students and staff are safe, and the school is following proper protocols,” Concepcion said in an email.

About an hour and a half after students and staff were evacuated, police say they cleared the schools and allowed students to return to class.

“Our investigations continue. Case is considered active,” Davie police said in a statement.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
