3 workers hospitalized after fall at Fort Lauderdale construction site, fire rescue says
Three workers were hospitalized Thursday morning after they fell 15 feet from a scaffold at an apartment construction site in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.
Around 8:30 a.m., the workers fell from a scaffold at 475 SW 27th Ave., Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Garrett Pingol told the Miami Herald in an email.
Of the three people injured, two had traumatic injuries and were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, 1600 S Andrews Ave., in serious condition, Pingol said. The third worker was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.
“It is unknown at this time how the workers fell and if there was a scaffolding failure,” Pingol said.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s OSHA arm will investigate the workplace injuries at the site where Atex Group’s website says it’s developing 475 Riverland Apartments. Labor said Wyoming-based Atex Group is the general contractor, but the injured workers were employees of Laz Construction, Inc., a Hialeah company.
