The Broward Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday released new details about a deputy-involved shooting that ended with the suspect dead.

According to BSO, Joseph Fuller, 24, of Oakland Park reached for a gun between his legs forcing Det. Clyde Davis, 48, to open fire.

The chain of events Tuesday began with an officer pulling Fuller over on Interstate 95 near the Cypress Creek Road exit at about 4:30 a.m. Fuller took off and his tag led deputies to Oakland Park.

Later in the day another deputy spotted him and attempted to pull him over, but again he took off.

Then at about 2:30 p.m. a deputy tried to get him to stop and get out of his car outside the Floranada Apartments complex, but Fuller refused. Instead, BSO said, he reached for a gun between his legs.

Davis, who has been on the force for 21 years, was placed on administrative assignment.
