Pedestrian hit and killed as he crossed busy Wilton Manors road

A man trying to cross a busy road — in an area without a designated crosswalk — in Wilton Manors was killed late Tuesday night, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Gregory Futchi, 68, of Wilton Manors, had just left a local bar and restaurant near 2000 Wilton Dr. when he attempted to cross Wilton Drive westbound at about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, according to BSO.

Shannon Lynae Gierman, 26, struck Futchi with her 2012 Nissan Versa as she drove southbound.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the scene and took Futchi to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died. Futchi attended the Julliard School and was an opera singer with the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida, his brother Dennis Futchi told the Sun Sentinel.

Gierman was not injured and remained on the scene.
