The city of Hollywood issued a boil water advisory on Tuesday morning after a water main burst and flooded a portion of State Road A1A.

Customers along A1A from Sherman Street north, including all of Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park, were without water service, the city said in an email around 9:30 a.m. Crews were on-site repairing the break.

The break caused the city’s water treatment plant to experience a drop in pressure. As a result, residents and property owners in the area are encouraged to boil tap water before drinking it until further notice.

The city said residents and visitors should not consume tap water without boiling it first.

“Bring all water to a boil and let it continue boiling for one minute,” the city said. “Only boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation.”

The northbound lane of A1A was closed as of 9:30 a.m.. and Hollywood police were on-site directing traffic. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.
