A pilot was rescued from the water after a small plane crashed in the Everglades Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023.

A small plane crashed in the Everglades Tuesday morning, according to Broward and Miami-Dade county officials.

The plane went down around 10 a.m. off Krome Avenue near Mack’s Fish Camp, said Battalion Chief Michael Kane with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue and Emergency Services Department.

“The area of the aircraft is in a very isolated area of the Everglades with access by only specialized assets, requiring Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue airboat and Miami Dade Fire Rescue’s aviation unit,” Kane said in an email.

A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue air crew flew the pilot to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood to be treated for a minor leg injury, Kane said.

The plane he was flying is a Cessna Skyhawk based out a Miami-Dade County flight school, he said. The pilot was the only person on the plane, Kane said.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
