Eight people on board a JetBlue flight from Ecuador were injured Monday morning due to turbulence the plane encountered in the air as it neared Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the company said.

The flight from Guayaquil, Ecuador, “experienced sudden severe turbulence” on approach to South Florida, the company said in a statement.

Paramedics took seven passengers and one crew member to the hospital “for evaluation and treatment,” the company said, adding that the plane landed safely.

“JetBlue will work to support our customers and crewmembers,” the statement reads. “The aircraft for this flight has been taken out of service for inspection.”
