Two burned, one hospitalized, in Lauderhill apartment fire
Two people, including a baby, were injured in an apartment fire Thursday night in Lauderhill, the city’s fire chief said.
Firefighters arrived at the building, located at 2600 N.W. 56th Ave., around 8:35 p.m. and evacuated residents after seeing heavy smoke, Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Levy said in an email.
Lauderhill requested the help of firefighters from Sunrise’s and Tamarac’s departments.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit, but three others had water damage, Levy said.
The baby suffered minor burns and was evaluated and treated at the scene, Levy said. A woman, however, was more seriously injured, and firefighters took her to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition, Levy said.
The Lauderhill department requested the American Red Cross to provide assistance with the residents of the four units affected by the fire.
The fire is under investigation by both the city’s and state’s fire marshal, Levy said.
