Sisters, 2 and 4, die after being pulled from Margate canal

Two sisters died Tuesday after being pulled out of a canal behind their Margate home, according to Margate Police.

Investigators identified the victims as 4-year-old Louidline Louima and 2-year-old Louidjiena Louima.

Police said the girls’ father called 911 around 5 p.m. when he realized his daughters, who were playing outside unsupervised, were missing.

First responders found the 2-year-old in the canal, pulled her out and began CPR. About 30 minutes later, divers found the 4-year-old unconscious and unresponsive.

Both children were taken to Northwest Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.

Neighbor Tracey Noonan said he lent his kayaks to police and paramedics who descended on the neighborhood to search for the children.

“They were out in the front yard, being outside together and [their father] went in to get some water for them and he came out and they were gone,” Noonan told Miami Herald news partner CBS4. “Just that fast. He said it was less than five minutes.”

Margate Police said they continue to investigate the case.
