Traffic alert: Pedestrian struck and killed by a Brightline train in Pompano Beach

A pedestrian was killed by a Brightline train in Pompano Beach Friday morning, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened in the area of Northeast Sixth Street and North Dixie Highway around 7:25 a.m., BSO said in a statement.

The person died at the tracks, spokesman Carey Codd said.

“Detectives with BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit were notified and are actively investigating the circumstances of the crash,” Codd said.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 1 between Northeast Third and Sixth streets remained closed into late morning as the investigation continued, Codd said.
