Broward motel standoff involved gunfire, a suspect in room and a hurt deputy, cops say
A Broward sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized after a struggle with a man at a Dania Beach motel Wednesday morning, authorities said.
When the deputy arrived at the Roadway Inn and Suites at 2440 State Road 84 around 5:45 a.m., he “made contact” with a man who ended up attacking him, said Carey Todd, a spokesman with the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
In the struggle, the deputy fired his weapon, and the man, who police have not identified, got away and hid inside his motel room, Todd said.
BSO tactical and K-9 deputies arrived, broke into the room and arrested the man. Todd said it doesn’t appear that he was hit by the deputy’s shot.
Paremedics took the deputy to the hospital to be treated for undisclosed injuries. His condition was not immediately available.
BSO Homicide and Internal Affairs detectives are investigating the incident, Todd said.
