Traffic alert: Two shutdowns will force detours and delays in Fort Lauderdale

If you drive through Fort Lauderdale, take note: Your trip may be affected by two construction projects that will close lanes on major roadways.

Here’s what to know, according to the Florida Department of Transportation:

Sunrise Boulevard

Streets affected: Sunrise Boulevard at U.S. 1 will be closed to all traffic.

Hours and days: The shutdown will run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting Monday May 15 through Wednesday May 17.

Reason for shutdown: Overhead sign placements.

Detours: Look for posted signs. Drivers on Sunrise will be detoured via Northeast Fourth Avenue. Drivers on northbound U.S. 1 will be detoured via Northeast Eighth Street.

Interstate 95

Stretch affected: Southbound from Oakland Park Boulevard to Sunrise Boulevard. Four inside lanes closed “around the clock” for roadwork.

Hours and days: 10 p.m. Friday, May 12 to 5:30 a.m. Monday, May 15.

Reason for lane closings: Installation of tubular markers on the highway.
