Have you been to this Fort Lauderdale grocery market? It’s a different kind of Publix

Publix opened a specialty store in Fort Lauderdale in 2021, at a pandemic time when not every shopper was back in the grocery store.

The name GreenWise might be familiar to shoppers from the organic and natural foods label found at your neighborhood Publix store. But there are just a handful in Florida.

Walk into the GreenWise Market in downtown Fort Lauderdale near Las Olas and you probably won’t feel like you’re in a Publix, even with the familiar green signs and branding logo.

Here’s what to know about it:

What will shoppers find at GreenWise?

Stock: The specialty store sells organic and gourmet groceries, natural personal care products, cheese, olives, cured meats. There’s also beer on tap, wine, kombucha. There’s also freshly made food including bowls, sandwiches and pizza. And yes, there are Pub Subs and BOGOs, according to the company. The stores are about half the size as the typical Publix market. GreenWise is divided into the following categories:

Cares - Vitamins, nutritional supplements, natural soaps and shampoos

Cuts - Meat with no antibiotics or added hormones, sustainably sourced seafood

Eats - Made-to-order meals and grab-and-go foods including sandwiches and pizza

Finds - Curated selection of wines and imported cheeses

Pours - Beverage area featuring coffee, wine and beer on tap

Quote: “We took all of the things our customers love about GreenWise Market and put them in a centralized downtown location,” Publix President Kevin Murphy said on the opening of the Fort Lauderdale location.

Are there other GreenWise locations in Florida?

Boca Raton: 8210 Glades Rd.

Miami-Dade: No locations.

Florida: Locations in Tampa, Tallahassee, Ponte Vedra, Lakeland, Odessa.

Publix specialty event near Fort Lauderdale

Cooking class: Publix is offering a $65 demonstration class and dinner celebrating American-made cheeses. The event is at the Publix Aprons Cooking School, 1181 S. University Dr. in Plantation. The event is 6:30 p.m. May 12.
