A 70% chance of more rain in Fort Lauderdale, including the airport, and where to get help
While parts of Fort Lauderdale and Dania Beach remain more suited for canoeing than evening walks after this week’s record rains, the National Weather Service says trouble is likely to get deeper by Monday night.
The weather service’s seven-day forecast for the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport area says there’s a 50% chance of rain Sunday night and a 70% chance of rain Monday.

If there’s good news, it’s that the forecast rainfall is a quarter to a half inch, or a cocktail glass of precipitation compared to the 26.08-inch bucket of rain that flooded parts of South Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday, most devastatingly in Broward County from Hollywood to Fort Lauderdale out to Plantation and Davie.
Here’s a few updates on where to go for help and what’s being done:
▪ City of Fort Lauderdale “Comfort Stations” with places to rest and Red Cross-served meals opened 7 a.m. Sunday at Shirley Small Park, 1230 SW 34th Ave.; Broward County Fleet Service Center, 2515 SW Fourth Ave.; and Provident Park, 1412 NW Sixth St.
The Shirley Small and Fleet Service centers have water, charging ports for electronics and, by Sunday afternoon, are expected to have showers and portable restrooms.
First Presbyterian Church, 451 Tarpon Terr. is being used as a secondary shelter because the Red Cross reunification center at Holiday Park has reached capacity.
▪ Broward County’s Office of the Medical Examiner should reopen to families and funeral homes on Sunday.
▪ Hollywood will have a special citywide bulk garbage collection Monday morning. Fort Lauderdale’s starting debris removal Monday morning, although, with “full deployment” expected Wednesday through Friday.
▪ The county will start mosquito spraying Tuesday.
