A sailboat hit a recently updated bridge over the Intracoastal, shutting down traffic
A sailboat struck the Sheridan Street Bridge that spans a section of the Intracoastal Waterway in South Florida.
The Hollywood Police Department issued a statement around 10 p.m. Thursday on Instagram that the vessel ran into the bridge and that traffic was being diverted in the area.
The department updated the statement around 1 a.m. Friday that the bridge was reopened.
WSVN reported that no one was injured in the incident.
The Sheridan street bridge, east of Broward County’s West Lake Park and Anne Kolb Nature Center, carries cars over the Intracoastal to and from Hollywood beach.
The bridge was closed to vehicular traffic for three months last year to undergo improvements.
The $12 million project added bicycle-friendly and anti-slip walking plates, pedestrian gates, and a four-foot safety railing between the sidewalk and the roadway. It will also upgrade the outer pedestrian railing and the tender houses.
