Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are looking for a man they say became enraged while shoplifting an armful of clothes from a Lauderdale Lakes store earlier this month.

The man, wearing a black-and-white jacket, black pants, a black hat and eyeglasses, is shown on store security video footage released by BSO carrying the clothes to the front door of the shop and becoming agitated when he realizes it’s locked.

The video shows him kicking and slamming himself against the door of the store, located at 3021 North State Road 7. What he didn’t know was that while he was walking around the store before grabbing the clothing on Dec. 7, the store was minutes from closing around 8:15 p.m. and employees had locked the door.

He could have just unlocked it and left with the stolen goods, BSO said. In fact, workers even try to unlock the door so he could exit the store.

At first, he dropped the clothes and pushed an employee to the ground. He then picked up the clothes again and ran out to a red truck. Police said he got away with about $200 in merchandise.

BSO asks anyone with information on the incident who can identify the man in the video to contact Detective Armando Enrique at (954) 321-4233 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477), Browardcrimestoppers.org or text 8477 from any cell phone in the United States.
