Nine people were forced out of their homes Tuesday morning after a fire ravaged a duplex in Broward, according to fire officials.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue responded to the blaze near 5400 NW 17th St. on Tuesday at 10 a.m., Chief Jerry Gonzalez told the Miami Herald. The seven adults and two children now displaced are being assisted by the South Florida Red Cross.

One of the duplex’s residents sustained minor injuries after trying to break a window to help get others out before firefighters arrived, Gonzalez said. The resident was treated on the scene and didn’t need further treatment.

Firefighters rescued two large dogs in a backyard, Gonzalez said, and provided oxygen to a rabbit found in a kitchen. The rabbit is now in good health.

Gonzalez said fire department inspectors are now investigating what caused the fire..
