Two people escaped a fire that destroyed several boats at a Hollywood marina on Monday morning, according to police.

The blaze happened around 1:30 a.m. at Hollywood Marina at 700 Polk St., said Hollywood police spokeswoman Deanna Bettineschi.

A man and a woman jumped from one boat into the water and swam to land, she said.

Hollywood Fire Rescue paramedics took the man to Memorial Regional Hospital, Bettineschi said. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known, nor was the number of vessels involved in the fire.

Hollywood officers placed caution buoys around the boats, Bettineschi said.

The state Fire Marshal and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are investigating the fire.
